Heart Rate Monitors

The other day in Tech class we had the opportunity to work with the heart rate monitors. This was my first time working with them and I don't know if I was using it right because I would get some crazy numbers. It seemed to work about half the time and the other half was reading really high numbers in the 200's. I think that heart rate monitors are a great way to assess students effort in class, and even though I didn't have such a great experience with them I have still heard a lot of positive things about them.

Finals

Finals week is coming very quick and this is definetely the worst time of the year. There is enough work going on already now i have to worry about taking tests that will either make or break my grades. I think that having a "finals week" is crazy. I think that it would be a better idea to spread the tests throughout the last three weeks of the semester. There is not enough time to prepare for all of the tests that are coming.

Mini Convention

Yesterday was the mini convention. I had to attend for a couple of classes and also volunteered to help with the food preperation. The presentations that i had the chance to attend were very interesting and informative. I am glad I had the chance to see attend and feel that i did learn useful information. The presenters were good, and i was very surprised ad impressed with the quality of the convention.

Chad Johnson

The latest news in the sports world is about Chad Johnsons request for a trade asap. This has been a request from him for some time now, and until now has been ignored. He seemed pretty content on being traded by the draft which is next weekend. I would like to see him go to the steelers due to his talent, however i dont know how it would affect the team chemistry. This will most likely never happen anyway.

Pen's

The penguins have now won their first two playoff games. This is great considerig the playoffs did not go so well last year. I hope that they can continue playing as well as they have. The last game was very close and cam down to the end. They pulled through and left with the win. Now that everyone is back and healthy i don't see them having trouble the rest of this series. I am excited to watch them play and hope that they can win it all this year.

Pirates

The Pirates are having a good start to the season. I have always enjoyed watching their games, but now i hope that more people will do the same since they have won some games. I have really been surprised by the way some of our team is playing. I hope that they can continue playing well, and am excited to get a chance to go to some games.

NCAA Tournament- Davidson

I feel that Davidson was this years surprise team. They almost made it to the elite 8 and only lost to Kansas by two. Stephen Curry was the leader of the very talented Davidson team. He avaeraged over thirty points the first three rounds of the tournament. I always like to see players from smaller schools such as Davidson have breakout games and really establish a name for themselves such as Curry did. It was fun getting a chance to watch him play, and wish that Davidson could have beat Kansas and made it further in the tournament.

Bodybuilding Show

The Mr./Ms. SRU show was held this past Sunday. It was a great show with a lot of competitors. The number of people that attended the show was very impressive. The show didn't start until 3:20 due to people still coming in the door. The competitors trained very hard and dieted for numerous months prior to the show. It really showed and led to a great show.

Pittsburgh Steelers

There is nothing that i enjoy more than watching the Steelers play. I always like watching the young players that we draft develop. The one player that i feel is going to make in impact this year is Lamaar Woodley. I've always enjoyed watching him play, and hope that he gets the chance to play more this year. They played him in the playoff game last season, and i feel that he did a great job when he was in. He had two sacks that game and a couple of tackles.

NFL Draft

The NFL draft is coming up on April 26th. The draft gives team a chance to address the neads that they have on their team. I am curious to see who gets drafted where. However, the main reason where i like watching the draft is to see who the Steelers draft. In the past the Steelers have always drafted good with the picks that they have had, and i hope this year is not any different. I hope to see them draft an offensive lineman which is what i feel we need most. I would also like to see them draft a wide receiver. Since they do not do much with trades the draft is the only way they fill the gaps in the roster.

Pacman Jones

Adam "Pacman" Jones was drafted in 2005 to the Tennessee Titans. He was drafted sixth in the draft, and since the draft has been arrested six times. He has been suspended from the NFL and is expecting to be reinstated soon. Dallas seems to be interested in signing him. I hate to see athletes with such talent make such poor decisions and jepordize their careers. He is very talented and could be one of the top corners in the league if he could stay out of trouble.

NCAA Tournament

The NCAA tournament has been full of surprises. I was hoping that Pitt would have done better, but Michigan State played a really good game. I was surprised to see Duke lose to WVU, and even more surprised to see Georgetown lose to Davidson. I like to see upsets such as these, but not when my favorite team, Pitt, loses. I have UNC winning it all and by the way that they are playing it is looking that way.

Cedric Wilson Released

The steelers released Cedric Wilson today. He was released after he was charged with assaulting his girlfriend at a restaurant. I have never been impressed with the way that he played. I don't think that he was very athletic and should not have gotten as much playing time as he did. I am glad that they released him and the Rooney's stuck to their tight policy on their players actions.

Pitt Panthers

Last night the Pitt mens basketball team won the big east championship. They beat the ninth ranked Georgetown Hoyas. They played a very good game and had a couple of young players step up in the victory. Pitt has always been my favorite college basketball team and I look forward to seeing how they do in the 64 team tournament. I do not expect them to make it very far because one game they can play great and the next game horrible. This seems to have always been the case for them, but I hope that this year will be different.

Baseball

One of my favorite things to do is going to Pirate baseball games. Even with their winning percentage always being so low i enjoy going to the games. PNC park is such a nice stadium and I just enjoy the whole experience. I like the traditions that are involved in the game and the game itself. I look forward to going to games this year and hope that they atleast win more than they did last year, but either way i will still enjoy going to the games.

Webpage

Today we turned in our webpage for technology. It took me longer than i had expected to complete it, but i am glad that i do not have to worry about it anymore. I am glad that i had the chance to learn how to create one, and feel that this would be a great way to interact with students. I can honestly say that I could help someone create a webpage and feel comfortable creating another one myself. I think that webpages are a great way to inform people and is a common method of research.

Brett Farve

Today one of my favorite football players of all time retired. Brett Farve had a great career possibly the best ever for a quarterback. I really hoped that he would come back for atleast one more season. He had a great season last year, and the way he was playing had me thinking that he would come back. It will not be the same watching football next year without being able to watch him.

NFL combine

I feel that the NFL combine is to commonly used as a huge predictor of where a player will get drafted. They have played in college for four years and I feel that should be the main factor in where an individual gets drafted. The combine is a collection of different events in which every player in the draft is expected to take part in and whoever shows for the combine is to take part in every event. If a player is suffering from an injury or illness their times and numbers will be affected.

Intramural Basketball

Last night was the final game of my teams intramural season. I love to compete in many intramural sports, but might enjoy basketball the most. Im sad that its over, but still have some soccer games left including the playoffs. I like to stay active and feel that intramurals is a great way to do so. I look forward to each game and wish the seasons were longer so we would have the chance to play more games.

Redbox

Redbox is a new way of renting movies. They are located at Giant Eagle's and I am not sure where else. It is a machine that you can rent movies from and the charge is only one dollar a day. I really enjoy watching movies so I feel that this is a great invention. It makes the rental process so easy and you can even look online to see if the movie is available at the location you plan to rent from. I think that this will give movie rental stores a loss of some business.

Dance Class

Tomorrow we have a presentation in dance class. I have not had much experience with dance prior to this class. I was nervous upon taking this class, however the teacher has made it as comfortable as possible. I still have to get my costume together for tomorrow. I am nervous and hope that everything goes alright.

March Madness

The best time of year for college basketball is coming up in a couple of weeks. The 64 team tournament is my favorite thing to watch and the hype that surrounds it is incredible. This tournament gives teams that are do not usually have their games shown a chance to be in the spotlight. I like that fact that any team can make it to the tournament as long as they win they conference tournament. I always like to see the underdogs make it far in the tournament and also Pitt and North Carolina. I look forward to the tournament and plan to spend alot of time watching the games.

Roger Clemens

The other day the Roger Clemens trial was on TV. I watched parts of it throughout the day, and can't seem to figure out who is lying. Roger Clemens is seen as one of the best pitchers to ever play the game and with these allegations his career is already starting to suffer. If he is found guilty his reputation will be ruined and records will be ignored. I would really feel bad for him if these allegations turned out to be false as it would have caused his family and friends alot of grief. However if he is found guilty I would have lost all respect that i ever had for his playing ability.

New Cable

A couple of weeks ago my roommate and I upgraded our current cable package to a hd package with dvr. The upgrade did not cost much and the difference with the hd channels is amazing. Over the summer i had bought a new hd tv and then i figured why have the tv without an hd picture on it. The dvr is one of the greatest accesories for tv's. It allows you to record shows or even rewind live tv. I like the convenience of being able to record shows when i know that i wil not be home to see thm when they are on. One thing that surprised me was the number of shows that it can hold. It it such a convenience to not worry about missing a show or game on tv and being able to just record it.

Intramural Soccer Week 2

Last night my team had our second intramural soccer game of the season. It did not go well, and actually went worse than our first game. Our goalie ended up walking out at halftime from all of the criticism from the team. I felt bad, but there was nothing that I could have done. We played much better in the second half, but had already dug ourselves too large of a hole in the first half to make a comeback. I still had fun and am looking forward to next weeks game because i feel that we can turn things around.

Intramural Soccer

Last night i had my first intramural soccer game of the semester. It is the same team that I was on for the outdoor season except for a couple of players. Playing indoor soccer is a completely different game and requires a different strategy than when you play outdoors. We did not start the game well going into halftime with a score of 5-1. However we made a great comback to tie the game at 5-5 with 2 minutes left. The other team could not get much going in the second half except for a last minute goal to win the game. Even though we lost the game it was still fun and I look forward to the next game.

Digital Camera

I hope that we get to spend some time learning how to use and all that you can do with digital cameras. I plan on buying one, but I have not had much experience with them. I feel that they are a very convenient way to capture times. I do not have any idea what one to get because i would only need it to take pictures occasionally, and don't feel that i would use the extra features that some digital cameras have. If anyone has any advice or comments they would be greatly appreciated.
